REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Social Affairs Minister Agus Gumiwang met with the Corruption Eradication Committee (KPK) leaders to consult on how to manage finances. He said it was an initiative to prevent mismanagement of ministry's fund.

"I, as the new Minister of Social Affairs, want to have a friendly meeting with the KPK. We took the initiative to meet the KPK leaders to consult on how to manage finances as well as possible, so that we can avoid things we don't want," Gumiwang said at the KPK building here on Friday.

Gumiwang was sworn in by President Joko Widodo on August 24, 2018, replacing Golkar Party politician Idrus Marham who resigned because he was a suspect in a case involving the alleged accepting of gifts or promises to members of the House of Representatives related to the cooperation contract agreement for the construction of the Riau PLTU 1 (Riau Mouth Tambang 1 PLTU) with a capacity of 2 x 300 mega watts in Riau Province.

"I was ordered by the President to manage the Ministry of Social Affairs well, to ensure freedom from corruption, and we all know that the budget owned, especially for the next year, which is budgeted for the Ministry of Social Affairs is very large; therefore there is a need for good governance in the Ministry of Social Affairs," Gumiwang added.

Gumiwang who is also Golkar Party politician hoped that the "courtesy call" with the KPK leadership would be helpful. Therefore, the Ministry of Social budget could be used as well as possible for the benefit of the public.

"The Social Minister will be met by leaders and ranks to discuss general affairs, including the prevention of corruption and what can be done," said KPK spokesman Febri Diansyah.

Another suspect in this case, namely the Deputy Chairperson of the House of Representatives Commission VII from the Golkar Party faction, Eni Maulani, returned Rp500 million on August 30, 2018. Maulani also said several times the receipt of the money was related to the Golkar extraordinary national deliberation fund of Rp2 billion.

Gumiwang was the organizing committee leader in the Golkar extraordinary national deliberations (Munaslub) in December 2017, which confirmed that Minister of Industry Airlangga Hartarto was Chairperson of the Golkar Party 2017-2019. Airlangga replaced Setya Novanto, who is currently in the Sukamiskin prison in Bandung, West Java, because he was sentenced to 15 years for the KTP-Electronic corruption cases.
