Govt invites Turkish businessmen to invest in Indonesia

Turkish investors have been successful in managing investment thorugh PPP scheme.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, ISTANBUL — National Development Planning Agency (Bappenas) Bambang Brodjonegoro invited Turkish businessmen to invest in Indonesia. He explained that Indonesia is developing a non-government budget investment financing scheme (PINA) aggresively as part of efforts to build infrastructure without having to rely on the government budget.

"We invite Turkish investors to invest in Indonesia following their success in managing investment through the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) scheme, among others the construction of an Istanbul airport that has six runways and a capacity of 500 aircrafts," Bambang said in a press release on Thursday (Aug 1).

Bambang expected Turkey would become a strategic partner of Indonesia Government. Moreover Indonesia has a mission to become the center of the world’s Islamic economy, including the role of Islamic economic in infrastructure development.

Bambang made the statement during the event of Indonesia-Istanbul Investment Promotion Forum organized by the Consulate General of the Republic of Indonesia in Istanbul, Turkey on last July 31.

During his visit to Turkey, Bambang went to Bosphorus Strait and had discussion with IC Holding Infrastructure Investment Director Murat Sogancioglu as the concession holder of Yavuz Sultan Selim Bridge. The brigde was build under the Turkish Government and the private sector cooperation through a non-government financing scheme.

 

Bambang acknowledged Turkey as one of the countries that has successfully implemented PPP schemes in various infrastructure sectors, including bridges, toll roads, to airports. Through a visit to Turkey, he expected Turkish investors could become Indonesia's strategic partners in infrastructure development in the country through both PPP and PINA schemes.
