REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SEMARANG -- Walaiwan Boonyiam, a 22-year-old Thai woman, was arrested by the authority at the Ahmad Yani Airport, Semarang, in Central Java Province, for carrying 1.15 kilograms (kg) of methampethamine. She hid the drugs inside her backpack.

Head of the Tanjung Emas Customs Services and Monitoring Office Tjertja Karja Adil stated here on Tuesday that Boonyiam, who flew from Singapore to Semarang aboard a Silk Air flight, was arrested on Sunday after landing at the airport.

Security officers have questioned and checked her bag, as she behaved suspiciously after disembarking from the aircraft.

"We faced a problem, as she did not speak Bahasa Indonesia or English," he added.

The officers have seized a plastic package containing crystal, found to be methampethamine.

"The meth was hidden in a secret space in her backpack," Adil revealed.

The suspect and evidence have been transferred to Central Java's National Anti-Narcotics Agency (BNN) for further legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, Head of the Central Java BNN Brig. Gen. Tri Agus Heru stated that the suspect, who is a singer, acted as a drug courier. She departed from Thailand for Singapore before flying to Semarang aboard a Silk Air flight.

"Based on the investigation, she was paid US$1,500 to deliver the meth to Semarang," he noted.

The suspect was instructed to stay at a hotel in the city before delivering the drugs. The BNN is still investigating the case.
