REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Prosperous Justice Party (PKS) President Mohamad Sohibul Iman emphasized that his party rejects all forms of radicalism. PKS also highly concerned about human rights issues.
"The PKS firmly rejects radicalism and terrorism and strongly condemns all acts of violence," Mohamad Sohibul Iman noted in a PKS release on Wednesday.
The PKS president also delivered the remarks during a visit of 14 ambassadors and diplomats of European Union (EU) countries to the PKS office on Tuesday (June 26). Iman noted that the issue of human rights is also a matter of concern for the PKS, and the EU representatives have been informed that the political party is a channel for moderation.
The PKS also invites various elements of society to sit together and formulate initiatives to prevent radicalism and terrorism.
John Kenedy Aziz, a member of Commission III of the House of Representatives, noted that radicalism must be condemned so as not to plague society for which coordination and synergy between the National Police and various parties is necessary to overcome it. "It is the police's job to prevent radicalism from developing and plaguing people," Aziz noted.
He expressed concern over indications of radicalism that have emerged in campuses, which are places for academic study. The Golkar politician believes that if radicalism spreads in campuses and disrupts the ideology of the country then it deviates from the purpose of the educational institution.

He also admitted to always urging the people in his electoral constituency to be wary of radical understanding that has developed and triggered fear in the community.
Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives' Commission X Sutan Adil Hendra had recently emphasized that the government's policy should prioritize offering guidance in order to fight radicalism believed to have been exposed to some elements of the campus in the country.
"The coaching aspect should be prioritized in addressing this, so the government should initiate the process of dialog, communication, and awareness among those believed to be affected," Hendra noted on Monday (June 4).
Hendra made the statement in response to the latest study by the National Agency for Combating Terrorism related to seven state universities that are said to have been exposed to radicalism. The Gerindra politician cautioned that the action taken should not adversely result in turmoil in the campus.
To this end, he highlighted the need for a clear indicator as a reference in order to assess the influence of radical ideology in college campuses. He expressed commitment that the House was keen to protect campuses from the influence of shallow radical ideology and tendentious to the da'wah, or religious propagation, movement.
