Jakarta Governor to congratulate Erdogan directly

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan said he will congratulate Recep Tayyip Erdogan who has been re-elected as Turkish President through a recent presidential election. According to Anies, he will experss his congratulation to Erdogan directly.

“Of course I will congratulate him (Erdogan) directly,” said Anies on Monday (June 25).

Anies said re-election of Erdogan in the new Turkey constitutional system is a manifestation of people’s trust. The recent election is the first presidential election with a new system that was made last year.

“This is a great confidence from Turkish people to Erdogan for the reform he has led and now he gained trust to lead Turkey again,” Anies added.

Anies had met Erdogan in last April, when he visited Turkey. Both of them also performed Friday prayer together at Ayyub Al Anshari Mosque and at that time, Anies said Erdogan has started campaign or kick off campaign.

“It was two months ago and now he is success, we are grateful. Hopefully, Erdogan can bring Turkey to be a good example for the world,” Anies said.

The preliminary results of the presidential election in Turkey showed that incumbent President Erdogan has grabbed 52,7 percent of Turkish society’s votes, from the total of 96,5 percent of votes counted on last Sunday (24/6). Meanwhile, his rival, Muharrem Ince from the main opposition of Republican People’s Party obtained 30,7 percent of the votes.
