REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Retno Marsudi, has affirmed Indonesia's commitment to remain optimistic in the midst of emerging global challenges to a number of experts, businesses makers, academics, and policy makers. She made the statement in her keynote address during the second day of the 1st Centre for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS) Global Dialogue and the 25th Pacific Economic Cooperation Council (PECC) General Meeting in Jakarta on Tuesday.

"Many view global challenges to be on the rise, in the form of domestic politics that is spilling to the world stage, lack of mutual trust, growing xenophobia, and growing uncertainties, both politically and economically," she stated.

The minister's statement was made in regard to the theme of the conference event, 'Global Disorder: The Need for New Regional Architecture and Business Model?,' which aimed to answer and address the main challenges faced by the global community at the moment.

Such challenges include lack of confidence and support for global and regional governance structures, disruptions due to technological transformations, and advancement in digital economy and artificial intelligence and Asia-Pacific leadership in the global economic system.

It also looked at sustainable development issues such as climate change and inequality, as well as the well-being of people, which includes ensuring access to education and health and tackling poverty.

The minister then admitted that it has become more difficult for policy makers to manage foreign policy amidst the situation.

"However, as the middle power, as the biggest country in South-East Asia, and as a member of the G20, Indonesia is staying optimistic and will try its best to make contributions, so that the international relation will continue to bring win-win result rather than zero-sum result," she stated.

She also remarked that Indonesia strives to also play its part in ensuring that there is respect towards international norms and law in the global community, which is not based on the 'Mighty Takes All' notion.

"It also aims to maintain a habit of dialogue and political solution rather than sanction approach and military solution," she revealed.
