Din Syamsuddin concerns over mass intimidation cases

Alleged intimidations experienced by Jokowi's supporter during Car Free Day.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President's Special Envoy for Interfaith Dialog and Cooperation and Civilization Din Syamsuddin concerned over the number of cases that caused national disunity. One of the cases appeared during Car Free Day in Jakarta on Sunday (April 29).

In a viral video, a crowd of people who wore t-shirt with slogan of #2019GantiPresiden waved banknotes to a man and woman who wore t-shirt #DiaSibukKerja. The victims were supporters of President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and the alleged intimidators were supporting new president in 2019 election.

According to Din, cases such as the alleged intimidation during Car Free Day are dangerous for the nation. He said it caused national disunity becomes deeper.

"I'm concerned of the dialectical phenomenon that causes the division of this nation deeper," Din said recently.

Din urged the people to avoid such clashes. According to Din, the incident should not happened and all parties should control themselves. Any difference must be resolved through a constitutional mechanism, he said.

"Each side must control themselves. If there is a difference in political aspiration, that is actually legitimate as it is organized by constitution mechanism, namely the election," Din explained.
