Sodik explains Prabowo speech over attempted bribery

Prabowo claims he was once asked to not running in presidential election 2019.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Chairman of Central Leadership Board of Gerindra Party Sodik Mujahid recognized the video of Prabowo Subianto's speech posted in the party's Facebook account. According to Sodik, the video was taken during a consolidation meeting of cadre ahead of West Java gubernatorial election some time ago.

In the video, Prabowo shared his experience of an attempted bribe in order to prevent him from running in the presidential election 2019. Prabowo also claimed to have been offered project and a lot of cash so he would retire from his position as Gerindra Party's general chairman.

Sodik explained Prabowo was talking about an incident happened in August 2014. At that time, General Chairman of Gerindra Party Suhardi passed away.

"There were forces from outside the party who ask and try lure Prabowo with material so the position of general chairman would not be occupied by Prabowo," Sodik said when contacted by, on Monday (April 23).

Sodik said Prabowo was also asked not to run in the presidential election 2019. However, Sodik was reluctant to disclose the identity of person.

"Who is it? Please ask the General Chairman and General Secretary. I do not have the right to reveal it to the public," Sodik said.

Prabowo was chosen as general chariman of Gerindra Party in an extraordinary convention in September 2014.
