REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, TIMIKA -- The Indonesian Army has managed to evacuate three more teachers from Aoranop Village, Tembagapura Sub-district, Mimika District, Papua Province, on Saturday. There were in fact five teachers, but two are the local inhabitants of Aroanop.

"They decided to remain in their kampong since they are in good health, Col Frits Pelamonia, commander of the Army's integrated task force to handle armed criminal groups (KKSB), stated.

Two helicopters of the army were used for evacuating the three male teachers, Pelamonia, who lead the evacuation process, remarked.

The evacuation process went smoothly without any disturbances, including by KKSB members. "We faced not obstacles, but the bad weather had hampered the evacuation attempt on the second day (Apr 20), so it was carried out on the third day," he pointed out.

On Friday, the task force tried to reach the village aboard a helicopter, but due to the thick fog and clouds, it returned back, and the evacuation was delayed. The remaining teachers were in good condition, as they were protected by several Army personnel that had brought the situation in the village under control.

The Indonesian Army personnel had managed to evacuate 13 elementary school teachers from Aroanop on Thursday (Apr 19).

Led by Colonel Frits Pelamonia, the military officers used two helicopters to evacuate seven female and six male teachers. Pelamonia had stated that the total of 18 teachers comprised nine from the Aroanop elementary school and nine from the Jagamin elementary school.

However, five teachers could not be part of the first evacuation process due to bad weather. The evacuation prioritized female teachers and those who were prosecuted by some 20 members of KKSB in Papua on Apr 13. One of the female teachers was raped by three men.
