REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PALEMBANG -- Home Affairs Minister Tjahjo Kumolo has lauded the preparations made by South Sumatra province to host the international sporting event of Asian Games in August 2018 in the city of Palembang. Explanation of South Sumatra Governor Alex Noerdin about the readiness of the Asian Games was very encouraging, the home affairs minister remarked here on Saturday.

Tjahjo said the readiness of South Sumatra in organizing the international sporting event next August is so incredible that it is expected to take place successfully.

Moreover, the international activity does not belong to South Sumatra and Jakarta but the Indonesian nation, he said, adding that the first Asian Games 1962 in Indonesia by the first President of Indonesia, Soekarno, could shake the world.

So now Indonesia is returning to host the Asian Games with President Joko Widodo and Governor of South Sumatra Alex Noerdin, and the event will certainly shake the world again, he said.

Therefore the home affairs minister said he was proud of the governor of South Sumatra for his leadership that managed to change the face of South Sumatra even famous in the world.

In addition, South Sumatra has an integrated international sports area namely Jakabaring Palembang.

"This is a remarkable achievement for the Governor of South Sumatra," Tjahjo said.

The Minister of Home Affairs believes the faces of South Sumatra and Palembang will be more beautiful with existing development and readiness to host the Asian Games.

On that occasion, the Minister of Home Affairs also asked students Sriwijaya University (Unsri) to compete among their students.

According to him, fellow students must have a sense of competitiveness, and competition to achieve the best.

"Let us continue to achieve the achievement," added the minister.

In the meantime, Governor Alex Noerdin said he was proud because the cities of Palembang and Jakarta will co-host the Asian Games.
