REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has signed another presidential decree extending the Business Competition Supervisory Commission (KPPU) commissioners' term of office for the 2013-2017 period for another two months. The commissioners's term of office extended from February 27 to April 27, 2018.

"This is the second time that the president has extended the KPPU commissioners' term of office for the 2012-2017 period," Johan Budi, the president's special staff for communication and information, stated here on Wednesday.

The KPPU commissioners should have ended their term of office on Dec 27, last year. However, the House of Representatives (DPR) has not conducted a fit and proper test on the candidates proposed by the committee in charge of selecting KPPU commissioners.

"The committee has accomplished its duties in accordance with the law. On November 22, 2017, the president proposed 18 candidates to the DPR to undergo a fit and proper test," he noted.

Since the KPPU commissioners' term of office has expired and the candidates have not undergone a fit and proper test, the president issued the decree extending the KPPU commissioners' term of office, he remarked.

The president has twice extended the KPPU commissioners' term of office on December 27, 2017, and on February 27, 2018.

Hence, the president has called on the House Commission VI to conduct a fit and proper test on the candidates during its session from March 5 to April 27, 2018, so that the KPPU will get new commissioners, Johan added.
