Jokowi yet to propose candidate for BI governor to DPR

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has not yet proposed any candidate for the post of Bank Indonesia (BI) governor to replace Agus Martowardojo, who will retire in May 2018. The president's special staff for communication, Johan Budi, said that he has received confirmation on three candidates for BI deputy governors.

"The three candidates are Dody Budi Waluyo, Doddy Zulverdi, and Wiwiek Sisto Widayat," he explained here on Tuesday.

On Jan 15, the president wrote to the House of Representatives (DPR), proposing three candidates for the post of BI deputy governor. Budi said, the candidates will undergo a fit and proper test at the DPR.

He stated that the president had proposed the three candidates based on the proposal from Martowardojo.

Waluyo, who is currently the chief of BI's economic and monetary policy department, once took a fit and proper test for BI deputy governor at the end of 2016. But the House Commission XI chose Sugeng as BI deputy governor for payment system.

Zulverdi, who earned his Master degree from Columbia University, has been the chief of BI monetary management department since 2015.

Widayat, who earned her Master degree from Swinburne University, is the chief of BI representative office in West Java. She began her career with BI in 1993.

During her career in BI, she once held the post of chief of group at BI's economic and monetary policy research department.
