REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A total of 25 websites that contained pirated musics or movies have been banned by Ministry of Communications and Information Technology. The  ban was to follow up complaints from the Task Force on Anti-Piracy of Creative Economy Agency.

"We submitted complaints and these sites have been blocked, but still there are stubborn who make shadow sites," said Chairman of the Task Force on Anti-Piracy of Creative Economy Agency, Ari Gema, Friday (18/9).

He said piracy of musical works and movies have been detrimental to the artists who made it.

According to the Union of Singer, Composer and Musician of Indonesia in 2013, losses due to piracy of recorded music reached Rp 4 trillion per year. The same thing happened with the movies. Piracy of one movie through various channels have been detrimental to approximately Rp 4.3 billion.

"Because this has a very broad impact, so that the Creative Economy Agency on 5th August 2015 formed this task force," he added.

Head of Creative Economy Agency, Triawan Munaf, said there were various methods of fighting piracy. However, for the early stages, the method used is the complaint-based offense.

For artists who felt that their work has been used without permission, they can denounce it to the Criminal Investigation Police of Indonesia by bringing evidence.

"We will also punish people who download pirated works," said Munaf.

He said that punishing downloaders of pirated works have been used in various countries, such as Korea and France. He called it effectively addressing these issues.
