REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Online transactions in Indonesia amounted to Rp34.3 trillion in 2014, according to a survey conducted by TechinAsia.

"Online transactions have become a need and part of people's lifestyle in Indonesia, providing opportunities for ecommerce businesses," Director of Consumer Banking of Danamon Online Banking Michelina Triwardhany said at the launch of a payment service for online shopping here on Tuesday.

The business is promising in Indonesia, considering the increasing number of Internet users in the country, which indicates high potential for online shopping.

Till May 31, as many as 275,571 customers were recorded at Danamon Online Banking.

In addition, Triwardhany predicted that in 2016, the value of online transactions will double to reach Rp64.5 trillion.

The greatest advantage of conducting online transactions is that consumers are able to save time while choosing goods to buy.

Also, there are occasions when the prices are lower as producers or sellers do not have to pay tax for shops, being able to carry out their businesses through online platforms.

She also pointed out that marketing costs were cheaper as compared to offline advertisements.

However, consumers need to be careful because many services are not legitimate, she added.

Danamon cooperates with Merchant Online to provide its online payment services. The cooperation will be stepped up this year, Triwardhany affirmed.
