REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, MANADO -- Three people in North Sulawesi have reportedly died of dengue fever, which is transmitted by the Aedes Aegypti mosquito, stated local health office spokesperson Grace Punuh.

"Of the three fatalities, two were reported in the provincial city of Manado and one in Sitaro Islands district," Grace reported here on Thursday.

She pointed out that until Wednesday evening, the number of people suffering from dengue had reached 257, with the highest being recorded in the city of Manado at 79 cases.

"We hope the locals will remain vigilant at all times due to the extreme weather at present. The rain that falls every now and then can provide opportunities for the dengue-carrying mosquitoes to breed," she remarked.

To break the chain of transmission of this deadly disease, Grace said she has urged the locals to drain, cover, empty, clean, dispose, or bury any potential breeding sites or habitats of mosquitoes where they could lay their eggs.
