REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Arief Hidayat and Anwar Usman read the oath of office as constitutional court chief justice and deputy chief justice respectively here on Wednesday (14/1) following their election recently.

"To God, I do solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the office of Constitutional Court chief justice, stick to Pancasila (state ideology) and the 1945 Constitution, enforce the law with full justice and serve the nation and state," he said.

The oath-taking was witnessed among others by Vice President Jusuf Kalla, chiefs of state institutions, cabinet members and a number of foreign ambassadors from several friendly countries.

Arief Hidayat was elected by acclamation to lead the court from 2015 to 2017 replacing Hamdan Zoelva whose tenure ended recently.

Anwar Usman meanwhile has been elected as a deputy chief justice through a vote, beating Aswanto and Patrialis Akbar.

Based on the law on constitutional court chief justice is elected through a close consultation by nine members with each of them having a right to be nominated and to nominate.

The nine justices consist of Anwar Usman, Arief Hidayat, Awanto, Maria Farida Indrati, Muhammad Alim, Patrialis Akbar, Waiduddin Adams, I Dewa Gede Palguna and Suhartoyon.

If agreement is not reached during consultation the final decision is done through a vote at an open plenary meeting.
