President to examine all ministerial budget in a move to cut spending

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- In a move to cut spending on budget, President Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo will examine budget in each ministry. He will ensure that the ministry spends its budget based on plan.

"We will examine one by one. We will directly cut budget for those with lavish spending," President Jokowi said on Monday, December 1. However, he admitted that there was willingness from ministries to cut spending on budget.

Jokowi, who is known for his modest figure, has already slashed travel and meeting budgets for next year. He also asked ministries to cut inefficient budget spending.

Minister for Bureaucratic Reform Yuddy Chrisnandi said the he formed a national movement for saving. He ordered officials to stop excessive spending on working infrastructure and expenditure.
