REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesia is committed to maintaining world peace and security in accordance with the universal principles agreed upon by all UN members, stated Chief of the Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) General Moeldoko.

"The principles comprise getting the approval of opposition parties and clear mandates. For Indonesia, such a mission has strategic and political dimensions, which is in keeping with the interests of the nation," General Maldolo remarked at the TNI Headquarters, Cilangkap, East Jakarta, on Monday.

The general was welcoming 175 members of the Garuda Contingent (Konga) XX-J Task Force, who had returned from a year-long peace mission at the Democratic Republic of Congo, on Monday.

As a party favoring the implementation of Global Peace Operations Initiative (GPOI), Indonesia has a vision to further promote its role and participation in peacekeeping operations, particularly by increasing the roles of its military, police, and civilians, he emphasized.

The Indonesian Peace and Security Center (IPSC), located in Sentul, West Java, is strategically located and can be used for several purposes, particularly to expand the military capacity in multidimensional peacekeeping operations, act as a standby base for rapid deployment, and on-call military and civilian expertise.

At the ceremony held to welcome the returning members of the Konga XX-J Task Force, Gen. Moeldoko, accompanied by Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Ida Bagus Putu Dunia and Naval Chief of Staff Admiral Marsetio, remarked that he was proud of the TNI personnel's achievement.

"I always tell the TNI soldiers, who are assigned abroad, to do things that bring pride to the nation. The Sector Commander in Congo and the UN Secretary-General has lauded us for our achievements, which truly makes us happy," he stated.

While performing their duties, the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) commended the Konga XX-J Task Force for their remarkable dedication and commitment.

The task force comprised 151 personnel from the Army, 19 personnel from the Navy, and 5 personnel from the Air Force.
