REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, PAYAKUMBUH -- The West Sumatra Payakumbuh City Government will ensure that exports of rendang abroad in May 2019 would be a success. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) has been signed with Saudi Arabian Entrepreneurs.
"Insha Allah, we will make the first delivery of rendang culinary in the form of seasoning of kalio or two-third finished product to Saudi Arabia," Deputy Mayor of Payakumbuh, Erwin Yunaz, stated in Payakumbuh on Monday.
Yunaz noted that shipping for the first stage consisted of one container or around 20 tons of seasoning. He explained that provision of meat is from Saudi Arabia, because licensing for meat supplies from outside of Saudi Arabia requires a long procedure there.
The Payakumbuh government is currently in the process of preparing all permits in Saudi Arabia for marketing rendang. To supply rendang en masse abroad, Payakumbuh Government has prepared a special cooperative for rendang businesses in Payakumbuh.
"All we have to do is support the businessmen to accommodate all the rendang in the cooperative," the deputy mayor remarked.
In addition, it has simplified the licensing business at Balai POM to increase the number of entrepreneurs.
"Balai POM already exists in Payakumbuh, so there is no need to go to Padang," he explained.
Meanwhile Payakumbuh is also waiting for the handover of the retouch rendang preservative machine for the durability and cleanliness of rendang. The export of rendang would have a huge impact on the economy of the community, he noted.
"Four coconuts per kilo means 80 thousand coconuts are needed for this initial shipment, as well as chili and onion," he revealed.
According to him, the agricultural sector will be benefitted, and a significant increase in economy will result in new jobs.
