REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SURABAYA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has signed a draft of presidential decree to revoke the remission given to I Nyoman Susrama, who was convicted of murdering Anak Agung Prabangsa, a journalist of Radar Bali, a subsidiary of Jawa Pos. Jokowi revealed his decision to Abdul Rokhim, editor in chief of Jawa Pos, during a function to celebrate the National Press Day 2019 held here on Saturday.

Rokhim recorded Jokowi's statement in a video and disseminated the recording on WhatsApp for Surabaya's journalists. He noted that the president's decision was good news not only for Jawa Pos but also for the family of Prabangsa and the public in general.

"The president's decision is a gift from him for the public on the National Press Day," he remarked.

Earlier, journalists and rights activists across Indonesia were outraged by Jokowi's move to grant remission to Susrama, who was convicted guilty of masterminding the murder of Prabangsa. The journalists and activists demanded the president to annul the decision.

Jokowi issued Presidential Decree No. 29/2018, which commute Susrama's sentence from a life sentence to 20 years imprisonment.
