REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- A total of 1,151 out of 2,357 civil servants who were proved to be guilty of corruption have been dishonorably discharged, Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Deputy for Prevention Pahala Nainggolan said. Of the total, 124 worked for the central government and 1,027 worked for regional governments, he revealed.

They were discharged after the home affairs minister, the state apparatuses and bureaucratic reform minister, and the chief of the National Personnel Administration Agency (BKN) issued a joint decree on Sept 13, 2018, he noted.

"So the decree has had an impact since it was announced last year. Right now, if he/she is found guilty (of corruption), he/she will directly be discharged," he said on Tuesday.

He remarked that there is still problem related to the time when a civil servant is proven guilty of corruption and the time when the court verdict has fixed legal force.

"The problem is that if the verdict has fixed legal force in 2015, then the civil servant must directly be discharged. But if he/she was discharged only in 2019, the official who discharged him/her is afraid of being asked to collect the salaries he/she received between 2015 and 2019," he revealed.

"That is why today I attended a joint meeting with the MA (Supreme Court), BKN, the State Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform Ministry, BPKP (development and finance comptroller), and BPK (State Audit Board)," he explained.
