REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Brigadier General Dedi Prasetyo, head of the Indonesian Public Information Bureau, revealed that three defendants supplying armed criminal groups (KKB) in Papua were sentenced to two years and six months in prison. The verdict was read by Presiding Judge of the Jayapura Class IA District Court.

According to Dedi, the KKB ammunition supplier were sentenced after being proven to have committed several criminal acts. They are proven to have made transactions and supplied ammunition for the KKB in the central mountainous region of Papua.

He explained, the Jayapura Class IA District Court had conducted a hearing on three defendants supplying KKB ammunition with the initials WH, EW, and RH on Thursday (Jan 24) at 13.15 East Indonesia Standard Time (WIT). Following adjudication of the case by the Presiding Judge of the Jayapura Class IA Court, it was expected that it will have deterrent effect on the three people.

"The detention also will narrow the scope of movement of the KKB which often disrupts the infrastructure development in the mountainous region of Papua," Dedi explained when confirmed, on Friday (Jan 25).

Dedi explained, after hearing the judge's verdict, the three defendants were closely guarded by the security forces. They were brought to Papua Regional Police headquarters for detention.
