REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, SENTUL -- Incumbent President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has promised to reveal details on progress in the investigation into the attack on anti-graft official Novel Baswedan during the presidential candidate debate planned to be held on Jan 17. He made the remark at the Sentul International Convention Center here on Wednesday.

On April 11, 2017, an unidentified man attacked Novel, a prominent investigator of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), with hydrochloric acid. However, despite the huge publicity and police investigation, his attackers have still not been officially identified, much less brought to justice.

The case was considered as a stumbling block for Jokowi's administration that is viewed as not being serious in handling human rights abuse cases and law enforcement. Jokowi said he will provide answers to any questions regarding the theme of the debate on legal issues, human rights, corruption, and terrorism.

Jokowi admitted to not having made any special preparations with his mate Ma'ruf Amin.

"We will come (to the debate), and if there are questions, we will answer. That is it," he added.

Previously, Novel stated, the formation of a joint fact-finding team (TGPF) by the National Police was not in accordance with his request. He assessed that the formation of TGPF was no different from the previous team.

"The investigators only receive a new assignment letter, but the problem actually is not about it," Novel said at KPK building, in Kuningan, Jakarta, on Tuesday (Jan 15).

Novel reminded that he and a coalition of civil society requested the formation of a joint fact-finding team (TGPF) as there were evidences and the facts that showed the investigation process did not really work to uncover the case. Thus, what was asked to be formed was a joint fact-finding team, not a team of investigators.
