REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Anies Rasyid Baswedan has said on Monday that pedestrian bridges and sidewalks in Jakarta should be artistic. He wanted to make walking a wonderful experience.
The governor recently checked revitalization projects of a pedestrian bridge at Senayan Square and another one in Gelora Bung Karno sport stadium.The architecture designs of the two pedestrian bridges are unique - different from other pedestrian bridges in the capital city.
The bridges' design should be integrated with the surrounding environment to make walking a convenient experience, Anies remarked.
Jakarta is located on the coast of Java with an estimated 2016 population of over 10 million people. It is the largest city in Indonesia and in Southeast Asia, and one of the most populous urban agglomerations on earth.
Its metro area is very large and it has its own name: Jabodetabek (Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi). The metropolitan area of Jabodetabek has a population that exceeds 30 million, with a total area of 4,384 square kilometers (1,693 square meters).
