Ma'ruf Amin ready for first debate of presidential election

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Vice presidential candidate KH Ma'ruf Amin stated his optimistism to appear on debate against the opposition on January 17. He believed his experiences on debates in the forum of ulamas assembly will be useful.

"It is not an obstacle for me, because I like to participate in debate," said Ma'ruf at his residence on Situbondo Street, Central Jakarta on Friday (Jan 4).

Ma'ruf who is also the chairman of the Indonesian Ulama Council (MUI) said that he also often debated in many forums with different kinds of topics. He asserted that the issue was not about the debate, but on the topic.

Ma'ruf admitted that he had no special preparation to face the presidential-vice presidential candidates debate. However, he has prepared material for debate and mentality, considering the debate this will be witnessed by the entire population of Indonesia.

"Yesterday, the debate material team already came here. They will continue update it until next Sunday, while I also continue to prepare myself with the debate materials," said Ma'ruf.

Ma'ruf admitted that he did not have certain problems related to the first debate material. He said, every candidate must accept the campaign theme or debate material that has been determined by General Election Commission (KPU).
