Jokowi lauds achievements of disabled children

Achievements of disabled children are sources of inspiration for people of Indonesia.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BEKASI -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has praised and lauded the nation's children with disabilities for their notable achievements. He noted that the glorious achievements of disabled children were sources of inspiration for the people of Indonesia.

"I am certain that the glorious achievements of these children are the result of their fighting spirit, hard work, and creativity," Jokowi remarked during the 2018 International Disability Day Commemoration at the Mall Summarecon Parking Lot, Bekasi, on Monday.

According to the president, all Indonesian citizens must be confident and work hard and innovate to deliver achievements. Jokowi cited the names of several children with disabilities, who have recorded outstanding achievements.

The students whose names were cited by the president were Krisnawati Utami, the first Indonesian citizen who became the ambassador for the UN disability committees in 2018; Siti Aisyah, who has successfully established her online business; Surya Sahetapi, an activist of the Handituli community; and Fahmi Husain, who won the best design award.

"This is the spirit that we have to maintain. This form of enthusiasm must continue to be improved," President Jokowi noted.

The commemoration activity bore the theme of "Indonesia Inclusion and Friendly Disability." The government has also invited all parties to jointly realize Indonesia as a nation that is friendly to people with disabilities.

President Jokowi affirmed that the government continues to encourage the development of facilities that are friendly to the disabled. Some of these facilities were built at the Bung Karno Stadium.
