Mount Anak Krakatau, which literally means a child of Krakatoa, has a height of 338 above sea. Krakatoa is infamous for its violent Plinian eruption in 1883, that destroyed the previous volcanic edifice and enlarged its caldera.

Krakatau forms part of an island group in the ocean, which expanded in the earlier 1900's following major eruptions.

Mount Anak Krakatau has erupted several times since 2009.
