REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Commissioner of General Election Commission (KPU) Wahyu Setiawan assessed bromance of the incumbent President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and his rival in presidential election 2019, Prabowo Subianto reassured the public. KPU hoped political elites to educate the public in the next year's election.
"The viral photo of Mr Jokowi and Mr Prabowo brings positive message," he said to reporters at KPU office, Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Thursday (August 30).
According to Wahyu, political elite's behaviour would influence people's behaviour. He expected political elites to be messenger of peace in politics and educate the voters. Therefore, presidential election 2019 would run peacefuly and safely.
Earlier, pencak silat (martial arts) gold medalist in Asian Games 2018 made a surprising and touching move when he embraced President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) and Chairman of Indonesian Pencak Silat Association Prabowo Subianto. The two presidential candidates were united in Hanafian Yudani Kusumah's arms and covered with the Red and White flag.
Hanifan said it was a spontaneous. He did not plan it. The move was welcomed both by supporters of Jokowi and Prabowo.
