North Sumatra lawmaker arrested over drugs possession

A lawmaker of Langkat, North Sumatra was nabbed after campaigning for next term.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The National Anti Narcotics Agency (BNN) has arrested a Langkat lawmaker on charge of being in possession of three sacks of methamphetamine. He also kept 30,000 ecstasy pills.

BNN identified the suspect as Ibrahim alias Hongkong, a member of the district legislative assembly (DPRD) of Langkat, North Sumatra. Hongkong was nabbed when he was on a tour of villages explaining his program after his election as new district legislator for the next term of 2019-2014, a BNN deputy for eradication Ins. Gen. Arman Depari is a short message received here on Tuesday.

On Sunday and Monday BNN, the customs office and the navy launched a joint operations in Aceh and Pangkalan Susu of North Sumatra. The officers confiscated three sacks of drugs containing methamphetamine and six packs of 30,000 ecstasy pills.

The operation was launched on information about drug trafficking in Pangkalan Susu. The result of the operation lead to the arrest of six other suspects involved in the drug trafficking, including Rinaldi, Ibrahim Jampok, Ibrahim Pusung Baru, A. Rahman, Joko and Amat.

The 30,000 ecstasy pills are superior quality, Arman Depari said.
