REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Gerindra Party chief patron Prabowo Subianto did not deny the possibility that he would pair up with Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY) in 2019 presidential election. He would answer "why not" if AHY’s name appeared.

“To be honest, I need a running mate who can communicate well with young generation and if AHY’s name appear, I would say why not,” said Prabowo on Tuesday (July 25).

His statement came after meeting with Democratic Party General Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY). Prabowo asserted that in the meeting, SBY did not ask AHY to be vice presidential candidate, but requested to find the best name.

According to Prabowo, the two parties have good chemistry. Gerindra and Democratic Party also agreed to open the path to coalse. "We will have another meeting," he said.

Meanwhile, SBY said the result of his meeting with Prabowo will be conveyed to the ranks of the Democratic Party's High Assembly as the highest forum of his party that would take coalition decision. He revealed there were three main points of discussion on the meeting yesterday.

“First is our commitment to run 2019 election peacefully, honest, and fair,” SBY said.

SBY also said Democratic and Gerindra Party will prevent identity politics and tribal affiliation, religion, race, and societal groups (SARA) extremely predominantly dominated the election.

He also called on the government and intelligence apparatus, police and military to be truly neutral and impartial in the upcoming 2019 elections. SBY hoped the state guarantees freedom of speech during the campaign and election, as it is guaranteed by the constitution and laws.

“It’s very important that we all as election participants can voice our aspiration in the campaign later without being overshadowed by the attitude considered to be beyond its propriety," SBY explained.
