REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian government will invite North and South Korean leaders to witness the 18th Asian Games events to be held in the country from Aug 18 to Sept 2. A senior minister to be appointed to present the invitation letters personally to North and South Korea, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung said here on Tuesday.

He stated that the invitation letters to North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un and South Korean President Moon Jae-in have already been signed by President Joko Widodo.

According to him, the event could serve as a good moment to develop peace. "This will showcase to the world that, if it could be realized, the Asian Games in Indonesia would serve as a uniting force for world peace, and the impact will be good," he noted.

Coordination between the military, the police, and the National Intelligence Agency has continued, and "right now, only the infrastructure is yet to be finished outside the stadium in several locations. Hopefully, they will all be completely finished by July 22," he asserted.

President Joko Widodo has inspected the accommodation facilities for athletes in Palembang, South Sumatra, on July 13 and 14 and other facilities, including the new Light Rail Transit system. He added that preparations have been 99 percent completed. Palembang will co-host the event with Jakarta.
