REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Cairo, Egypt, confirmed that no Indonesian citizens fell victims to an explosion in a chemical factory near Cairo International Airport. The incident occured on Thursday evening.

"So far, no reports have been received of Indonesian citizens becoming victims of the explosion," Indonesian Ambassador to Egypt Helmy Fauzy noted in a statement on Friday afternoon.

Despite no reports of any Indonesian victims being received, the Indonesian Embassy in Cairo continues to monitor the development of incidents that resulted in injuries to some 12 people.

The Egyptian authorities have confirmed that the explosion near the airport occurred at a chemical storage facility owned by Heliopolis for Chemical Industries at the Joseph Tito Street in Cairo.

The high temperatures are believed to be the cause behind the incident, though flight traffic at Cairo International Airport remained undisturbed by the incident.

According to the latest information, some 12 people were injured in this incident, and an explosion was heard up to Heliopolis City located some 11 kilometers (km) from the scene and Nasr City, which is 14 km away.

Nasr City is a densely populated settlement, with residents mostly comprising Indonesians.
