An elephant found dead in East Aceh

There was no sign of abuse to the elephant's body.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, RAYEUK -- A wild elephant was found dead in an inland forest area in Banda Alam sub-district, East Aceh district, Thursday (July 12). The male elephant is predicted to have died the day before it was found.

“A pair of ivory still attached to its head and the carcass still not rotten,” said East Aceh Police chief Wahyu Kuncoro on Friday (July 13).

The cause of death has not known yet. According to the police, there was no signs of abuse on the animal’s body.

Banda Alam District Police said this case has been  reported to the Natural Resources Conservation Center (BKSDA) of Aceh. Animal Health Medical Team (Keswan) is also informed on the way from Banda Aceh capital to East Aceh.

“We are still waiting for the BKSDA Aceh team, to perform the necropsy, so we can know the results of laboratory test to find the cause of elephant dead,” said Banda Alam District Police chief Zainir.

Furthermore, Zainir said investigation will continue to be done. The elephant that found dead this time was predicted was 15 years old.

“If we find criminal element, we will process this case,” Zainir added.
