REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Eid al-Fitr, or Lebaran, holds profound significance for Indonesian Muslims to strengthen the bonds of mutual brotherhood. Al Azhar Islamic Boarding School Foundation Chairman Sobirin conveyed the messege in his Eid sermon at Al Azhar grand mosque, in Jakarta, on Friday (June 15).

"Eid holds significance to strengthen bonds of fraternity among fellow Muslims to continue the struggles of life," Sobirin remarked.

He noted that the struggles of human life must be continued by fighting against lust and evil desires that can harm the human self to become miserable.

According to Sobirin, Eid al-Fitr is categorized as a holy day for Muslims, who have managed to control lust by fasting for an entire month. Furthermore, Sobirin said that Islam is a religion that unites and teaches love among Muslims.

Hence, he invited all Muslims to further strengthen the bonds of fraternity and unity as well as to practice religious teachings in a proper way. The sermon delivered by Sobirin was in line with the call by Religious Affairs Minister Lukman Hakim Saifuddin for Muslim preachers to spread the message of peace.
