REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Internist at Medika Permata Hijau Hospital, Bimanesh Sutarjo admitted accident that occurred to former House of Representatives (DPR) speaker Setya Novanto was engineered. He made the confession during the trial at Jakarta Corruption Court on Thursday (June 7).
Corruption Eradication Commission prosecutor Kresno Anto Wibowo asked Bimanesh about his Whatsapp chat dated November 18, 2017 at around 08.00 am. He got a question from his cousin Etty Tante Sari about the accident experienced by Setya. "So, it was a lie that (Setya) was about going to Metro TV and then to KPK? Instead, (Setya) had an accident, right?" she asked Bimanesh as read by the prosecutor.
According to prosecutor, Bimanesh replied the accident was a made up. He knew from the media that the car that drove Setya was a used car. "An amateur scenario. It was very obvious," he said to his cousin.
On January 10, KPK determined Bimanesh, along with Setya's ex lawyer, Fredrich Yunadi as suspect for obstructing investigation of Setya. They allegedly conspired to manipulate Setya's medical record and also were believed to have made arrangement for Setya to be hospitalized following a minor car accident on November 16, 2017.
"I swear to God never conspired with Fredrich, I know the legal consequences of hiding prisioner and there is no reward or money that had been given," said Bimanesh.
However, Bimanesh admitted guilty for accidentally helping Fredrich to hide Setya. He said he believed in Fredrich when he was asked to check Setya at Permata Hijau Hospital.
Bimanesh then decided to present himself as justice collaborator. "I'm guilty for believing in (Fredrich), I feel really miserable," Bimanesh added.
Bimanesh alleged to violate Article 21 Law No. 31/1999 as amended by Law No. 20/2001 on Eradication Corruption, also in Article 55 paragraph (1) criminal code (KUHP). He was detained since January 12 in the State Class First Detention Center East Jakarta KPK branch located in Pomdam Jaya Guntur.
