REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Cabinet Secretary Anung Pramono said government will not reduce Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) authority in carrying out its duties. His statement came related to pro and contra of revision Criminal Code Law, which one of the revision regulates articles of corruption.

President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) has repeatedly said government doesn't want to reduce KPK's authority in eradicating corruption," said Pramono on Wednesday (June 6).

According to Pramono, corruption cases happened frequently. Therefore, president and vice president committed to not reduce the authority of KPK in any form.

Government's attitude, especially president and vice president is clear that KPK's authority should not be reduced in any form," Pramono added.

Pramono suggested government, House of Representatives (DPR), KPK, and other stakeholders to discuss the issue and find solution. He said, revision of Criminal Code Law can add articles that mention KPK's authority is not reduced.

KPK has considered the articles in Criminal Code (KUHP) Draft Law could weaken its authority in eradicating corruption. Therefore, KPK has sent a letter up to five times to President Jokowi on this matter.

Earlier, KPK deputy chairman Basaria Pandjaitan said KPK has Law No. 30/2002 on corruption eradication. Thus, she asked corruption crime should not be included in other laws.

We think corruption eradication has become a law and it shouldn't need to be in other law, Basaria said.

She was worried the overlapping of rules will weaken the eradication of corruption. Nevertheless, according to Basaria, President has not yet responded KPK's letter about this matter.
