REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan has urged the people to remain calm and to not panic in the face of the bomb attacks in Surabaya. A series of deadly blast have claimed 22 lives and injured dozens others as of Monday.

"Hence, I urge all people to remain calm and not panic, and if they notice any signs of suspicious activities to just let it go, as it might be hoax," the governor noted at the City Hall of Jakarta on Monday.

Since the bombing incidents in Surabaya targeting three churches on Sunday (May 13), Anies, as the chairman, has been communicating intensively with ranks of the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum and with the police and the entire security apparatus.

"Until this morning, we were still communicating and even before I came here, I spoke with the chief of police to monitor the latest developments. Thank God, Jakarta is safe," he stated.

During a conversation with Polda Metro Jaya, Inspector General of Police Idham Azis and Anies discussed several circulating rumors that had triggered anxiety. This anxiety will have a dire impact on the people and surroundings.

"Remain calm and if anything suspicious is noticed, please report it to the security personnel. Also, do not spread hoax news," he stated.
