MUI not to tolerate radicalism, terrorism

MUI deeply regrets and condemns the terror bombings in Surabaya.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Indonesian Ulemas Council (MUI) will never tolerate radicalism and terrorism. MUI also condemned the terror attacks on three churches in East Java, on Sunday morning.

"MUI deeply regrets and condemns the terror bombings in Surabaya because this is clearly a very disgraceful act," said Secretary General of the Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) Anwar Abbas whem contacted in Jakarta on Sunday.

He hopes that in the future there will be no more similar attacks because the impact is very much, especially on peace and religious unity.

The series of suicide bombings took place on Sunday morning at around 7:30 pm at three houses of worship, the Catholic Church of Immaculate Santa Maria (STMB), the Indonesian Christian Church (GKI) on Jalan Diponegoro Surabaya and Pentecost Church on Jalan Arjuno Surabaya.

Until now the death toll from terror acts was at least recorded 11 people, while 41 others were injured. President Joko Widodo along with a number of other state officials are currently reviewing the scenes of the bombing in Surabaya after previously visiting the victim at a local hospital.
