Dead victims of Surabaya bomb attacks rise to 11

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- East Java Police said the dead victims of bomb attacks at three churches in Surabaya, Sunday morning increased to 11 people. Meanwhile, 41 others injured in the incidents.

"The latest developments show that another victim died in Ngagel and total of 41 injured victims were treated at hospitals," said Head of Public Relations of East Java Police Senior Commissioner Frans Barung Mangera on Sunday.

Barung said that President Joko Widodo and National Police Chief Gen. Tito Karnavian will give further details.

President Joko Widodo, Mangera said will be accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs Retired General Wiranto, Police Chief General Police Tito Karnavian and Head of State Intelligence Agency (BIN) Retired General Budi Gunawan, while visiting the victims at hospitals.

After reviewing the victims at the hospitals, the President also plans to visit the location of the attacked churches. The President will provide information related to the bomb attacks in Surabaya at the East Java Police Headquarters.

 "The President will give a statement to the media in the Tribrata building, accompanied by the Coordinating Minister for Political, Legal and Security Affairs, the National Police chief, the head of BIN, the East Java governor and the Regional Military Commander," he said.

Bomb attacks occurred at three churches in the East Java provincial capital of Surabaya on Sunday morning, police said.

"The bomb attacks occurred in three locations, namely Santa Maria Tak Bercela Church in Ngagel, GKI (Indonesian Christian Church) in Diponegoro Street, and a church in Arjuna Street," Frans Barung Mangera said earlier.

The police have conducted investigation in the three locations, he said.

The explosion in front of Santa Maria Tak Bercela Church has killed two persons and injured 13 others.

"Right now there are only three locations. Do not believe in misleading information that (the bomb) exploded in five locations or any others," he added.

The police would share updated information on the victims as well as the incident in the three locations. "Give us time to conduct investigation in the locations. We will have a media center for journalists," he said.

Barung said, the bomb in Santa Maria Church exploded at 7.30 a.m., while two other bombs in GKI and Pantekosta Churches at 7.35 a.m. and 8.00 a.m.
