Megawati to meet with Airlangga on Sunday

Megawati and Airlangga to discuss simultaneous regional elections.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDIP) Chairwoman Megawati Soekarnoputri to meet with Golkar Party Chairman Airlangga Hartarto on Sunday. According to PDIP General Secretary Hasto Kristiyanto, the two political parties leaders will discuss simultaneous regional elections.

However, Hasto was reluctant to reveal details of the topics to be discussed. He claimed Megawati and Airlangga would not talk about Joko Widodo's running mate in presidential election 2019.

"About Vice presidential candidate, it will be discussed later," Hasto said.

Earlier, Hasto said there will be a meeting between general secretary of parties from the government coalision. The meeting will be held on Monday (May 7) after Megawati and Airlangga met.

"We will arrange the meeting between Bu (Mrs) Mega and Pak (Mr) Airlangga first because it has been scheduled since a long time ago," he said. 

When asked whether Airlangga who is currently serve as industry minister has the chance to be vice presidential candidate, Hasto refused to answer. He prefered to explain some of the criteria for Jokowi's running mate.

"A leader must be tested in the field, the leader must be a mature, has the character, and has the power of breakthrough," he remarked.
