REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) to send the defendant in e-ID card graft case, Setya Novanto (Setnov) to Sukamiskin Penitentiary in Bandung, West Java, on Friday afternoon. Sukamiskin Penitentiary head, Wahid Husen said there was no special preparation to welcome the former Golkar party's chairman.
He asserted Novanto will be treated the same as all other convicts. "Just as ordinary as when others convicts to be sent to Sukamiskin prison," said Wahid on Thursday (May 3).
Wahid also said the prison block for Novanto has not been determined yet. According to him, Sukamiskin Penitentiary is still waiting for the certainty of Novanto's arrival from KPK.
On April 24, panel of judges at Jakarta Corruption Court officially sentenced Setya 15 years imprisonment and fine Rp 500 million or three months confinement. In addition, his right to be public servant for 5 years is revoked. He got lighter punishment than KPK prosecutors demand, which charged him with 16 years imprisonment and fine Rp 1 billion or six months confinement.
As the defendant in e-ID card graft case, Novanto was proven to have intervened in budgeting and procurement of goods and services in e-ID project in 2011 until 2013. The abuse of authority was done by him to benefit himself and enrich others and corporations.
He also was proven guilty for collecting 7,3 million US dollars and a Richard Mille watch, worth 135 thousand US dollars. The money and a watch were from Andi Narogong and PT Bimorf Lone Indonesia Director Johannes Marliem, as part of he compensation because Novanto had helped to smoothen the budgeting process.
