Bali police arrest 103 Chinese nationals for cyber fraud

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Bali police's cybercrime unit has arrested 114 suspects of cyber fraud in Bali, 103 of which are Chinese nationals. Brig. Gen. Mohammad Iqbal, a spokesman of the Indonesian Police, said that the suspects comprised five Indonesian females and six Indonesian males as well as 103 Chinese of which 11 were females and 92 males.

"They were arrested at three different locations in Bali," Iqbal stated,

The arrest was made on Tuesday at the Mutiara Abianbase complex, Mengwi, Badung; Bedahulu Street XI/39, Denpasar; and Gatsu Street I/9, Denpasar. The suspects committed the crime using internet as a media to hoodwink the victims and pretended to be Chinese law enforcement personnel.

Using advanced technology, the suspect made a call and said it was from the Chinese police and judiciary institutions.

"After being intimidated, the victims sent the money demanded by the suspects," he noted in a short message here on Wednesday.

The police have seized 51 telephones, five laptops, 82 passports, 53 cellular phones, 18 routers, two printers, and 27 hubs.
