REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The Commission I of Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) will follow the US move to call Facebook to attend a hearing in order to clarify an allegation over the data leak scandal of the users in Indonesia. More than million Indonesian users are online on Facebook, and they may get affected by the data privacy violation committed by the British political consulting firm Cambridge Analytica, the Vice Chairman of Commission I Satya Widya Yudha said in a statement, Wednesday.

The parliament members will call on the Facebook representatives to clarify the allegation by answering whether the information has only been collected.

He also stressed the commission will also probe on the risks and threats that the Indonesian users may threat because of the data leak on Facebook.

The parliament, he noted, is supported the Information and Communication Ministry's move of issuing the first and second warning notices of a request over audit report to Facebook. The ministry, Yudha said, should protect all Indonesian users, in accordance to the law.

On Tuesday (April 10), the ministry filed the second warning notice (SP II) to Facebook over the data privacy violation to its users by the third party.

Signed by the Information Application Director General Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, the ministry called on Facebook to provide a clarification and explanation of the data leak scandal.

The ministry said in a statement, Wednesday that it will ask Facebook to firmly protect the user's data privacy, in accordance to the Minister Regulation No.20 Year 2016 on the Personal Data Protection in Electronic System.

Despite of the allegation, the National Police Spokesperson Pol. Inspector General Setyo Wasisto said that the office has not yet received any reports on the misuse of personal information on Facebook. However, the Police will still call the Facebook representatives for an extensive probe, Wasisto said, while adding, he has yet determined the hearing schedule.

Since 2015, the UK-based The Guardian has published an article that is suspecting a third party has misused the personal data of Facebook users in US. The allegation has became a major global scandal, after The Guardian and The New York Times issued reports of the data leak on the California-based social media platform.

Following the reports, the Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg has admitted and apologized over the leak, during the hearing with the US Congress on Tuesday (April 10). He promised that Facebook will reform its data privacy protection for the users.
