Police seize 18 kg of narcotics in Kampung Ambon

Kampung Ambon is a notorious drugs haven in West Jakarta.

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- JAKARTA -- Cengkareng Police and West Jakarta Metro Police have seized 18 kilograms of ecstasy pills substance during a raid in the notorious drugs haven Kampung Ambon, on Wednesday. Police arrested six perpetrators at a rented house at Akik Street, Kedaung Kali Angke, Cengkareng.

"One other suspect managed to escape," Cengkareng Police chief Agung Budi said to Republika.co.id on Wednesday.

From the scene, police found 110 grams of crystal meth in seven packages, 18 kilograms of narcotics known as substance to produce ecstasy pills and nine ecstasy pills, scales. "We also seized a number of mobile phones, bongs, and deposit books," said Anti-narcotics unit of West Metro Jakarta Police chief Suhermanto who lead the raid, said.

Police started the raid at around 10:30 Western Indonesia Standard Time. A total of 150 personnels from police and military searched the area. 

The authorities have been trying to improve the image of Kampung Ambon by changing its name with Kampung Permata. West Jakarta Metro Police also tried to provide various jobs training for local residents.
