REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) dispatched humanitarian assistance for Rohingya refugees in Cox Bazaar, Bangladesh, from the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base in Jakarta on Wednesday.  Indonesia have sent assistance to Cox Bazaar several times. "Later, this aircraft will land in Chittagong, Bangladesh," he stated after reviewing the humanitarian assistance aboard a Hercules aircraft at the Halim Perdanakusuma Air Force Base.

Accompanied by Vice President M. Jusuf Kalla, Jokowi noted that Rohingya refugees in Bangladesh still needed aid in the form of medicines. The president added that if possible, he would like to visit the hospital built by utilizing Indonesia's assistance. "If we have more time, we are going to visit the hospital, as traveling from Dhakka to the hospital's site needs additional time," he pointed out.

Jokowi had received a report stating that hundreds of thousands of refugees were in need of aid. The refugees needed a helping hand from other countries. "I hope that we are consistent in providing assistance to Rohingya refugees," he noted.

On Wednesday, Jokowi kicked off his visits to several South Asian countries: Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Afghanistan. The president will first visit Sri Lanka.

Earlier, Indonesia had sent humanitarian aid in the form of 30 tons of rice, 14 thousand blankets, 17,400 sarongs, 2,490 packages of instant food, 20 large tents, 10 flexible emergency water tanks, 600 family kits, 900 packages of clothing, one ton of sugar, 10 electric generators, 325 boxes of cooking oil, and two thousand boxes of biscuits to the Rohingya refugees through the Government of Bangladesh.
