REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Two personnel of Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) were shot by armed criminal group (KKB) during patrol in Tembagapura district, Papua at 03.50 am Eastern Indonesian Time on Wednesday (November 11).
One of the personnel died in the incident.
"One other personnel survived with severe gunshot wound on his back. He is still being treated at Tembagapura hospital," National Police Spokesman Rikwanto said on Wednesday (November 15).
Rikwanto explained the incident started following previous shooting against Tembagapura zone patrol vehicle on 07.20 am Eastern Indonesian Time at Mile 69 on Tuesday (November 14). An employee of PT Freeport Indonesia, Raden Totok Sahadewo got shot in the thigh as he was in the area.
To investigate the incident, an integrated task force of Brimob Detachment B of Papua Police was formed.
"KKB open fire to the police in patrol at hilly area of Mile 69," Spokesperson of Papua Police Suryadi Diaz said in a statement received by Republika.co.id.
Brigadier Firman died in the incident. Meanwhile, Head Brigadier Yongki Rumte severely wounded by gunshot.
"We are still investigating the perpetrators and will arrest them," he stated.
Previously, act of terror that committed claimed by members of Liberation of West Papua (OPM) happened on last October. They shot at the Police Mobile Brigade (Brimob) station at Mile 66 in Tembagapura.
The incident occurred when Brimob personnel stationed in Timika were pursuing a group of armed assailants suspected to be behind security disturbances at PT Freeport Indonesia's mining area. It caused seven Brimob members injured and one of them died. Also, three civilians became injured victims.
