Buni Yani is sentenced to 1.5 years in prison

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG -- The panel of judges at Bandung District Court sentenced Buni Yani one year and six months in prison on the alleged violated Article 32 (1) of the 2016 Electronic Information and Transactions (ITE) Law.

"We declared the defendant Buni Yani proven to intentionally and without rights or against the law in any way alter, add, subtract, transmit, destroy, remove, move, hide any electronic information and or electronic document belonging to others or public property. Sentenced the defendant one year and six months, " said Chief Judge M. Saptono when reading the verdict in Library and Archives Building Bandung, West Java on Tuesday (November 14).

However, Buni did not get jailed since the verdict has not been a legal binding decision as the convicted planned to have an appeal.

Claiming the facts of the trial were inappropriate, Buni Yani's attorney, Aldwin Rahadian said, they will file an appeal.

"We will appeal in next week because the facts of the trial were not appropriate," said Aldwin.

Beside that, Aldwin said, he will report panel of the judges led by M. Saptono to the Judicary Commission for the verdict.

Aldwin said, the judge made their decision without considering the facts during the hearing.

"We will report the judges to Judicary Commission on Thursday," he said to the reporters after meeting groups of mass who support Buni Yani, in front of Library and Archives Building Bandung.
