REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Infrastructure development in Indonesia is expected to reach 90 percent by 2019 when the Joko Widodo-Jusuf Kalla's administration ends, Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said.

In addition to hoping for the completion of the infrastructure development Pandjaitan also wished that the village fund program initiated by the government would begin to give positive contributions.

"If both infrastructure development and village fund program run smoothly, it will reduce disparity and gini ratio," he said during a press conference on "Three Years of the Working Cabinet" at the Presidential Staff Office on Wednesday.

According to Pandjaitan, the current price disparity between the eastern and western regions of Indonesia has begun drop around 14-20 percent for different commodities.

"The more we build the logistics base, the better the arrangement, I think the disparity will continue to decline. However we do not want only the state-owned companies to play a role in this development but we also want other players as well so the private sector can grow as well," he said.

During three years of his leadership, President Jokowi said that the realization of infrastructure development reaches almost 60 percent.

This year marks the acceleration for the infrastructure projects by changing the development paradigm from Java centric to Indonesia centric.

Among several infrastructure projects spread across various regions of Indonesia are 24 projects in Kalimantan, 27 projects in Sulawesi, 13 projects in Maluku and Papua such as dams, airports, ports as well as power plants.

President Jokowi believes that the benefit of those projects can be earned by next year.

"We can start looking on equitable development by next year as our infrastructure constructions will be 80 percent-completed," the president noted.
