Registration of mobile phone number to be validated with NIK

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- Ministry of Communication and Informatics (Kemenkominfo) planned to enforce validation of mobile phone registration data with citizen identity number (NIK). It will be applied starting from October 31 or in the end of this month.

Minister of Communications and Informatics Rudiantara said the policy is issued as government effort to prevent misuse of mobile phone number and to protect the consumers, especially for prepaid customers.

"As our commitment to provide protection to consumers as well as for the interests of national single identity, and other benefits are security, transparency and value-added services for the community," Rudiantara said on the official website of Kemkominfo on Friday (October 13).

According to him, the provions which were concerning of registration of cellular customers had been issued since last year in regulation of Minister of Communications and Informatics No.12/2016 on Telecommunication Services Customer Registration. Nevertheless, socialization also had been started since 2005.

"It has been 11 years since the first time it was implemented. However, we must be realistic because this prepaid registration depends on the existence of the ecosystem and the process of socialization to the community," Rudiantara added.

He said one of the important issues in registration of customer numbers is the certainty of the real data. 

"Another ecosystem is how we refer to the information that the customer submitted during registration was correct. We can validate the submitted data with the data from Population and Civil Registration Agency (Dukcapil)," he explained.

Meanwhile, Director General of Population and Civil Registration of the Ministry of Home Affairs Zudan Arif Fakrulloh assessed the record data of customer numbers was in line with government efforts to encourage governance and community to be more orderly and accountable. 

The government wanted to encourage more efficient governance towards sharing economy, where operators able to identify their customers.

According to Zudan, the total access of NIK by the number operators has reached 36.521.872. He also praised Kemenkominfo which would build the ecosystem of e-KTP.

Moreover, Director General of Post and Informatics Implementation of the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology, Ahmad M. Ramli stated the registration process was not a difficult thing during following the correct procedure. The re-registration process would last until the end of February 2018.

"How register card done just by sending a short electronic message (SMS) to 4444 with the format NIK#Family Card (KK) number#," Ramli explained.
