Vietnam delegation to visit Indonesia

REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, JAKARTA -- The delegation of Vietnam government, including the Secretary General of the Communist Party of Vietnam, Nguyen Phu Trong, will visit Indonesia from August 22 to 24, 2017, to discuss potential cooperation.

"Phu Trong will visit Indonesia along with several ministers and business persons from the country," the Director General of Asia Pacific Africa of Foreign Affairs Ministry Desra Percaya stated here on Monday.

According to Percaya, the highest authority of Vietnam will conduct a meeting with President Joko Widodo on August 23, 2017.

Besides, Phu Trong will also meet leaders of the People's Consultative Assembly (MPR), the House of Representatives (DPR), and the Regional Representatives Council (DPD).

Some cooperation fields that were potentially explored by the two countries included maritime, fishery, trade, investment, as well as regional issues.

The Secretary General will also deliver an invitation to President Joko Widodo to attend the APEC Meeting to be held on November 11 and 12, 2017, in Da Nang.

"Indonesia's agenda for APEC is to encourage a roadmap of village development and poverty alleviation," Percaya added.

Vietnam is one of the countries in the region that has the highest economic growth of up to 6 percent in 2016.

The bilateral trade value between Indonesia and Vietnam reached US$6.2 billion in 2016.

"We see potential chance to increase cooperation between Indonesia and Vietnam in trade and investment sectors," Percaya revealed, adding that Vietnam had been Indonesia¿s strategic partner since June 27, 2013.

During the visit, Vietnam will also hold discussion relating to the border of Exclusive Economy Zone of both countries, in accordance to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea 1982.
